Road Hazard

Chrome Grille Deflector Detachment

In February 2025, GM recalled over 70,000 of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks because the chrome front grille deflector can detach at speed. Weak attachment points may crack, creating debris and crash risk.

Unlatching Tailgates

In November 2024, GM announced a GMC recall for certain 2024 Sierra 2500/3500 HD trucks, due to water entering the tailgate and shorting the power-unlatch switch, causing the gate to open in Park. Over 65,000 GMCs are covered. For the remedy, the authorized dealer will replace the switch with a water-resistant design for free.

Transmission Issues

In November 2024, GM recalled diesel 2020–2022 GMC Sierra 1500 and Yukon for incorrect TCM software that could cause harsh shifts, unintended deceleration, or even rear-wheel lock-up.

Faulty wheel hub bolts

In March 2024, a GMC recall covered some 2023 GMC Canyon trucks because the front wheel hub bolts were tightened too much at the factory. Bolts can loosen or break, and you could lose control. Dealers replace both front hub bolts for free.

Windshield wiper failure

In April 2022, GM recalled 2014–2015 GMC Terrain SUVs because corrosion in the wiper module’s ball joints can make the wipers stop working, slashing visibility. The fix is a dealer inspection and repair/replacement free of charge.

Electrical Problems

Stalling due to the alternator connector

In December 2019, a GMC recall covered around 350,000 of the 2019–2020 Sierra 1500 trucks because excess glue on the alternator’s battery-cable ring could loosen the connection, causing stalling or electrical arcing. The fix is that the authorized GM dealers inspect, clean, and replace damaged parts free of charge.

Faulty daytime running lights

GM recalled GMC SUVs and trucks due to an issue where the daytime running lights (DRLs) may remain illuminated even when the headlights are on. This problem was first noted in November 2022 and extended in December 2022, affecting the 2022–2023 Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL models. Dealers are instructed to reprogram the Body Control Module (BCM) at no cost to customers.

Rearview camera failure

If your 2020–2021 GMC Acadia has a flickering or blank backup image, it might be affected by a recall filed by GMC in September 2022. The problem is inconsistent crimping of the coaxial cable. Dealers are instructed to replace the cables at no cost to you if you are affected by this recall.

Engine and Powertrain Issues

6.2L V8 Engine failure 

In late April 2025, nearly 600,000 GM trucks and SUVs were recalled. The affected models include the GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL. The recall was due to defective connecting rod or crankshaft parts, which could cause engine failure and sudden loss of power. Dealers will inspect and repair the affected vehicles at no cost, including replacing the engine if necessary.

Fuel tank overflow

Certain Sierra 3500 chassis-cab trucks from the years 2011 to 2015, as well as models from 2016 to 2018 with gas engines and dual fuel tanks, may experience an issue where the front tank can overfill if the level sensor malfunctions. In rare instances, this can cause the front tank to bulge and make contact with the driveshaft, leading to a potential leak and fire hazard. As a remedy, dealers will replace the rear pump and inspect or replace the front tank as necessary.

Occupant safety

Seat belt malfunction

GM filed a recall notice 23V-786 in November 2023 due to issues with loose front buckle bolts in some 2023–2024 GMC HUMMER EV seats. These loose bolts could pose a risk of failure during a crash.

This recall follows earlier actions, including recall 20V-792, which was posted on December 23, 2020, addressing a front-center belt bracket issue, and recall 19V-814, posted in November 2019, related to a fire risk with the seat pretensioner. Dealers will provide repairs and tightening at no cost to customers.

Improperly welded door beam

GM filed recall 25V-087 in February 2025 for 2025 Savana vans. The door impact beam might not be welded correctly, so it may not protect as designed in a side crash. Dealers will replace the door assembly and verify the weld points at no charge.
