Improper Heat-Treated Tie Rod Ball Studs
A serious Freightliner recall was launched in late 2024 after NHTSA flagged defective tie rod ball studs in 2025 trucks. The studs, improperly heat-treated by a supplier, could fracture under stress, leading to catastrophic steering loss. The recall covers Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Cascadia, M2, and Western Star 47X models. DTNA has urged owners to arrange free dealer repairs immediately.
Tie-Rod Separation on Pusher Axles
In June 2024, NHTSA announced a Freightliner recall after discovering improperly heat-treated tie rod studs in pusher axles on 2025 Freightliner Cascadia, 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, and some Western Star trucks. These brittle studs could fracture, causing tie rod separation and sudden steering loss. DTNA is replacing the assemblies at no cost.
Steering Gear Assembly
A Freightliner recall in early 2024 exposed a severe steering defect: some Cascadia and FCCC MT45 vehicles left the factory with too few recirculating balls in the steering gear. This assembly error could strip drivers of steering control without warning. It follows earlier recalls of U-joint pinch bolts (2022) and drag link joints (2019–2021), underscoring repeated steering system concerns. Owners are urged to schedule free dealer repairs immediately.
