Where to Find an SSR VIN?

On SSR motorcycles, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is stamped on the frame rather than the motor. The most common spot is the steering head area, usually on the right-hand side of the frame, sometimes hidden behind the front number plate. The engine serial number is separate and can be found on the left side of the crankcase.

Steps to find the VIN on an SSR bike:

  • Check the frame: Look for digits stamped directly into the metal or displayed on a small plate.
  • Focus on the steering head: This is where the front forks and handlebars connect to the frame.
  • Look to the right side: Most SSR models place the VIN on the right of the steering head tube.
  • Remove the front number plate if needed: On some bikes, the plate covers the VIN, so taking it off can help you read it clearly.

How do you read an SSR VIN?

The 17-character VIN is easy to read and is usually divided into three parts: the world manufacturer identifier (WMI – first three characters), vehicle attributes (fourth to ninth characters), vehicle identifier section (last eight characters).

Sample: LAEGBZ46XLGX05003

WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier)

Characters 1–3

LAE

L = China (country of origin).

AE = Manufacturer code for Jiangsu Jincheng-Suzuki or QJ Motor (SSR sources its bikes from Chinese OEMs). In this case, tied to SSR Motorsports (US distributor) & their Chinese manufacturing partner.

VDS (Vehicle Descriptor Section)

  • Characters 4–9

    GBZ46X

    G = Model line/vehicle type.

BZ46 = Engine and frame configuration (specific to the XF250).

X = Check digit (used to validate VIN authenticity).

VIS (Vehicle Identifier Section)

  • Characters 10–17

    LGX05003

    10th character = L → Model year 2020.

11th character = G → Assembly plant code (factory ID).

    12th–17th characters = X05003 → Unique serial/production sequence number.
